Tornado History: Yazoo City, Mississippi EF-4 Tornado

On this day in 2010, a deadly EF-4 tornado with estimated peak wind speeds of 170 miles per hour (mph) struck Yazoo City, Mississippi. 

The length of this tornado’s path was almost 35 miles, 34.85 miles to be exact, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS. 

According to the NWS in Jackson, the width of this tornado’s path was 3080 yards. Sadly, the tornado killed 4 people and injured 53 people. 

Yazoo City

The tornado had a maximum width of 1.75 miles. Several buildings, including a church and several businesses, were totally destroyed. You can find out more about the tornado itself here
