A storm chaser has been identified as one of two people who died in a hit-and-run crash in northwest Wichita, Kansas over the weekend.
According to his stepmother, Lana, Levi Ward (20-years-old) died early Saturday morning. As well as a storm chaser, Ward was a KAKE First Alert Storm Tracker.
“His contagious infectious excitement for chasing was fun to watch. We loved listening to him last season as you (Jay Prater) mentored him through the process of live TV”

The crash occurred near 17th Street North and Tyler Road at around 2:20am on the 16th April, 2022. A police officer said a vehicle collided with a motorcycle and fled the scene. Ward and the other person on the motorcycle died.
Colin Becker, the 23-year-old driver of the vehicle, was arrested later when his father brought him back to the scene to talk to investigators. Becker was booked for two counts of failure to stop at an accident resulting in death.
Becker didn’t appear on the Sedgwick County Jail’s list of current inmates this morning. Police have not identified the other person who died.
Our thoughts, prayers and love go to Ward’s family and friends at this difficult time.
